surfing down to the Coastline
Well, after our first 2,5 weeks in New Zealand - we were so hooked with the landscape, exspecially the beaches and surfing, that we decided to slowly surf our way dwn the east coast towards Coromandel.
We spent so much time on the coastline, hopped & surfed from beach to beach, checked out the best surf spots, bought a new surfboard and and and... in the end we realized that we were still far up north after almost 3,5 weeks of traveling in New Zealand.
After Coromandel with an amazing landscape we speeded up our travel towards the south, we headed to Rotorua were we dipped into volcano thermal pools as the weather was getting colder. Actually it wasn't that cold, probarbly 15 degrees, but after spending almost 5 month in hot and tropical weahter condition we were already freezing.
It felt our surfing days were coming to and end - even if we had already bought wetsuits for the colder days.
After Taupo Lake we planned to do the Tongariro Crossing which is one of the highlights in the North Island. However, as we were still in our beach-mode and the weather was not that great we decided to do it on our way back in April.
(Damn it! wrong decision when we came back a month later - it was snowing - 0 degrees)
Our Last stop in the North Island was the Capital of New Zealand - Windy Wellington. We had some couple of nice days in Wellington - also on our way back - but it is indeed unbelievable how strong the wind blows over there..
