Best City in South America
Wow - I have no idea where to start with Rio de Janiero! I´m a huge fan of Rio and for me it is under the TOP 5 Cities in the world. From the moment we arrived until the end we left, we only had good experiences.
Giulia , who by the way started as the best traveling partner and has now become the best travel agent within the last 9 month (hahaha sorry my love), booked this amazing lovely place in Ipanema called Bonita. The guys who run Bonita were super friendly. I never stayed in a hotel, Airbnb, hostel or any other accommodation were everyone was just friendly. It was just so refreshing. We were kind of expecting it too as when we got our passports stamped at the customs the lady behind was literally singing to the top of her lungs and gave us a big smile. This was gonna be a promising 5 days in Rio.
Ipanema itslef is a famous, artistic and hippie district, directly next to Copacobana in Rio the Janiero and since the night in the Salar de Uyuni where we met the Brazilian guy who played the famous song "The girl from Ipanema" on my guitar i was so hooked with Bosa Nova, Ipanema and Rio. Without previously realising my lovely travel agent actually booked a hostel named "Bonita", which we then found out was actually the previous home of the "tAntônio Carlos Jobim " who wrote the song the girl from IPANEMA. What a coincidence!
On the first day we took our surfboards and jumped into the water at the beach of Ipanema. The waves were small and the best place to surf was super croweded. Nevertheless surfing in Rio is just different - the vibe - the people - I just loved it.
Our daily program was always filled with Sport, either we woke up for surfing, Mhuai Thai or Boxing. The rest was……
….Shopping - a lot… bikinis, Flip flops, T-Shirts
….Sightseeing - we rented some bycycles and cycled to the Copacabana and the Sugar Loaf
….Had a lovely day in the botanical garden
The highlight of our surfing at Ipanema Beach was definitely when Brazil played football against Mexico at the world cup, and the beach was totally empty, no cars on the street, workers stopped working, local buses were parked on the side, all shops were closed…..and we could hear all goals from the water :-)
We tried the best vegetarian restaurants in town, hit twice the Churrasqueria for Dinner (Brazilain BBQ - all you can eat) and Giulia literally rolled me back to the hotel on both of those nights.
As it became almost a tradition, I also had the chance to meet my friend Koji (business partner from Mongolia) and his family while they were in town and we had a lovely evening followed by some nice drinks and chats later in the night. We really wished we stayed longer in Rio as the city itself had so much to offer and we really appreciated the warmness of Brazilian people and loved the vibe in Rio! Brazil will definitely be a “ go back” destination...
