The beauties of Patagonia-Argentina
We started our South America chapter in Buenos Aires but I'm not going to spend many words on that stop as I think both of us were not really amazed by the city. Potentially also because we came from natural paradise to concrete jungle....
But at least we could organize our travel plans for South America, had a nice evenning in a Buenos Aires brewery with Clara and of course the highlights of Buenos Aires - Andy's daily steak night!

We flew to el Calafate early morning a few weeks ago together with our newly learnt sentence in Spanish "las tablas son muy complicado"..I dare you to find anyone else who travelled with surfboards in Patagonia, you'll get a prize from us if you do.
The moment we landed in el calafate and took a small shuttle to the town I knew we were in the right place. Mountains lake and forest make up for the perfect scenery. A mix of different shades of blue... El calafate is a really nice mountain village with lots of shops and restaurants and a bunch of nice streets around. A bit similar to some small mountain villages you'd find in Europe too. We chose to do the complete glacier adventure to Perito Moreno and didn't regret it.
We spent 1.5 hours trekking on the glacier and it was just stunning! The ice was so blue in some points and shaped in the weirdest tunnels and holes. At the end of the trek we went to a cave below the glacier which had a really nice fluorescent light effect and it felt like being into the frozen kingdom of some winter Disney movie. We came back with a big smile on our faces and some pretty amazing pictures and memories of the glacier.

Now this is my time to say "the world is so small" as I bumped into my ex/friend Federico on the way back to El calafate..he was backpacking to South America too!!!! Anyway 2 days later we all drove together to el chalten for adventure #2: hike to the Fitz Roy.
And I have to say the moment we got to the final mountain, that view momentarily deleted that of the glacier few days before...the whole hike to Laguna de los tres was extremely nice (and long) and we were lucky with the best sunny weather. So far Patagonia, and in particular that hike, were the 2nd best highlight of the trip after New Zealand .
A special dedication goes to Andy's favourite mountain: Cerro Torre!!! From the moment we arrived in el chaltèn he was dying to see the Cerro Torre, so we made it a point of hiking to the view point of the mountain on the same day we had to leave to return the rental car in el calafate. Couldn't leave without saying hello to Mr. Torre...
